Out of Reverence, Not Compulsion

One of many questions that keeps bugging me daily is ‘Why should someone comply to a specific set of rules?’

Say you’re going to a bakery looking to buy some croissants for breakfast. And as you entered the shop, you see that there was already a long line of people waiting for their turns. Now, what stops us from cutting the line, grab those croissants (and maybe some cookies too), then get out of the store, which I believe would take less than 5 minutes?
